Which are the best / worst times to send an email?

posted in: Email Marketing

Our friends at Pure360 in the UK created a nice infographic showing the best and worst times to send an email marketing campaign. Of course, the time to send varies by country and even by region, but this serves as a general guideline that more or less applies to most cases.

Another important consideration is that type of business you are marketing is important. A restaurant may benefit from certain times that a music teacher may not or a home renovator may get great results from sending certain days while a B2B business needs to stick to weekdays.

Which is the perfect time to send my email?

Every market behaves differently and what works for the retail industry may not work for the automotive industry but there are basic key times you should be aware of. For example, did you know that 96% of email marketing sent between midnight and 7:00am are never opened or that between 5:00pm to 6:00pm is the best time to launch email marketing campaigns. What about the fact that between 9:00am and 10:00am you are far more likely to succeed with your campaign if you need it to be read at business day start?

Testing will give you a better idea of what works best for your region. User habits vary from country to country and even from one city to the next. There is no "One size fits all" when talking about timing to send email campaigns, however, the infographic below by Pure360 is a good reference guide to get you started on your testing.

In the end, it doesn't matter what you start with, always check your stats and analytics and improve with experience and data. Fine tuning is the single most important part of every digital marketing campaign and possibly digital marketing's biggest advantage over traditional media.
